Trading Post Life: Anna Vanderpool

In 2005, Anna Vanderpool was interviewed by the Anchorage Daily News. Anna’s father emigrated from the former Yugoslavia hoping to take part in Alaska’s Gold Rush. He debarked in Unalakleet, and walked to Nome before moving on to Ophier and Takotna. From there he floated down the Takotna river to “the big mercury claims at Georgetown” where he was US Marshall for several years before establishing a trading post at the mouth of the Holitna.
